The USMNT is 2-3-1 in its past six matches, and each of those matches saw the Americans lose the possession battle. That is to be expected against the likes of France and Brazil, but even an overmatched Bolivia side came away with a 52-48 possession edge. The same went for a young Mexican side, which held a 53-47 edge in possession. The possession stat isn’t the end-all, be-all of evaluating performances — the Americans dominated Bolivia in a 3-0 romp — but it can often be a telling sign of a team’s inability to grab hold of a game or slow things down when an opponent is running rampant....

The Red Bulls and the Columbus Crew each have three players on interim coach Dave Sarachan’s roster heading into the game in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The list includes Gyasi Zardes, the most capped among the MLS players with 38 national team appearances. Meanwhile, Red Bulls defender Aaron Long is looking for his first cap. In all, 12 of the domestic league’s players got a call-up. Coach Jill Ellis is depending heavily on that experience advantage, and it showed in the decisions she made regarding the final few spots for France....

Lloyd, Solo on shortlist for World XI Jill Ellis’ side will face Norway at Komplett Arena in Sandefjord as the second game of the trip, with the opening match yet to be announced. The friendlies will mark the Americans’ first non-competitive games outside the U.S. since matches against France and England in February 2015. The match will be the 50th meeting between the U.S. and Norway, who met in the first Women’s World Cup final in 1991....

The home side secured a 5-0 victory over New Zealand Women in their matchday two fixture. Incredibly, Meikayla Moore scored three first-half own goals which were added to after the break by Ashley Hatch and Mallory Pugh. Iceland secured a 2-1 victory over the Czech Republic Women. Natasha Anasi and Selma Sol Magnusdottir gave their side a two-goal lead at the break, which was halved by Michaela Khyrova in the 85th minute....

The 36-year-old Rapinoe scored the Americans’ first two goals in spectacular fashion: her opening strike in the 8th minute was fittingly an ‘olimpico’ goal, as she scored directly off a corner kick. Her second was equally spectacular on a volley into the top corner after a defensive clearance fell perfectly to her in the box. The 39-year-old Lloyd became the USA’s all-time leading scorer at the Olympics with two goals, one on either side of halftime, and both were classic forward finishes....

Serena lost her temper in the process and walked up to the chair umpire, pointing at him as the crowd started booing in the direction of the former world number one....

Kyle Keyser made 13 saves for the Americans, allowing only Marek Korencik’s goal late in the second period at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Keyser stopped Andrej Kukuca on a penalty shot with 6:45 left to preserve the lead. “This is a resilient group,” said Keyser, who plays for the Ontario Hockey League’s Oshawa Generals. “We’re never going to give up. We’re going to play right until it says zero in the third period....

The 20-year-old midfielder scored in the fourth minute of Tuesday night’s 1-1 exhibition tie against Ecuador, then left late in the first half because of the injury. The USSF said Pulisic had an MRI after the game and was traveling to Borussia Dortmund, which will establish a timetable for his return. Pulisic has been limited to 15 league matches and 25 overall this season for Borussia Dortmund. He tore a calf muscle last October and a thigh muscle in February, and lost playing time because of the emergence of 19-year-old English winger Jadon Sancho....

Following a 12-minute deliberation by the selection committee at the conclusion of the men’s trials at Chaifetz Arena, the five-man roster was announced. Sam Mikulak, Chris Brooks, Jacob Dalton, Alex Naddour and John Orozco will represent the U.S. at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. MORE: Best American Olympians of all time Mikulak is probably USA’s best chance to medal in Rio after taking bronze at the 2014 World Championships and taking gold in the all-around last year at the Pan American Games in Toronto....

Brown no longer will be welcome at Southern California Trojans football games, according to athletic director Mike Bohn. USC revoked her season ticket privileges after an investigation into what he termed “abhorrent and blatantly racist tweets.” Bohn’s message did not specifically identify Brown. On Friday, Brown’s account replied to a tweet from writer Tony Posnanski complaining about President Trump’s encouragement of the use of National Guard troops to address widespread protests regarding the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police with the comment, “Yes and they should be shooting the looters....

A playoff spot was in their sights. Someone forgot to tell the Utes, though. Fueled by swarming defense, a strong run game and a gutsy display by floppy-hair fireball Cameron Rising, No. 11 Utah rolled, thrashing USC 47-24 en route to its second straight conference title.
