The Olympics Games’ return to Beijing is significant on several fronts, not least of which it is the first time the city has hosted the Winter Olympics. Beijing previously hosted the 2008 Summer Games. This year’s competition will mark only the second time in China’s history that it has hosted the Olympics.
Team USA, of course, will be the primary point of interest for most Americans during this year’s competition, which officially begins on Friday with the opening ceremony and ends on Feb. 20. That includes individuals Shaun White and Chloe Kim (snowboard halfpipe), Mikaela Shiffrin (alpine skiing) and more.
That doesn’t even include team sports; the national women’s hockey team is looking to repeat its gold-medal performance from the 2018 Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The team also won four straight world championship golds from 2015-18 before the IIHF Women’s World Championships in 2019 and ‘20 (Team USA won silver in 2021). The men’s team, meanwhile, will look to improve from its seventh-place finish from 2018 and medal for the first time since taking home silver in the 2010 Vancouver Games.

What time is it in Beijing?
Beijing is 13 hours ahead of Eastern Time. Determining the time in China during the 2022 Olympics is as simple as adding 13 hours to your current time (if you’re in Eastern Time): If it’s 1 a.m. in ET, then it’s 2 p.m. in Beijing.
The time difference will result in several tape-delayed broadcasts for prime-time audiences in the United States, as the action will occur live when most audiences on the East Coast are asleep.
